Course description
In this workshop we are going to practise language that is useful for conferences – small talk, argumentation skills, phrases and expressions that guide your listeners through your presentation and engage their interest.
This session requires an advanced command of the English language. - All interaction in English!
Learning targets
Main goals of this workshop are:
- to build a repertoire of expressions that can be used in language situations typical of the context of international conferences.
- to develop an awareness of the performance aspect of presentations.

- Place: We will announce the place in an e-mail about 10 days before the date

- Fee: 250€. Free for employees of CAU and PhD students who are registered in Graduiertenzentrum.
- Registration deadline: 14 days before the course starts
IMPORTANT: As currently planned, this seminar requires your physical attendance. Accordingly we ask you to observe hygiene and distancing measures. An email containing further information will be sent out before the start of the seminar.

This course is designed for graduate students and researchers of all academic disciplines.
Course description
We are going to work on the main aspects of presentations such as structure, engaging your audience and how to tackle question and answer sessions. There will be an opportunity to give a 10-minute presentation and get feedback from your peers.
The sessions require an advanced command of the English language. - All interaction in English
Learning targets
Main goals of these sessions are:
- to develop an awareness of the differences between speech and writing by comparing production and resources of these two different ways of using the English language.
- to develop an awareness of the aspects that make an academic presentation successful.
- to build a repertoire of phrases and expressions useful for presentations
- to apply these aspects in a “test run” in a relaxed context with feedback from your peers.
