Ein Gemeinschaftsangebot von Wissenschaftlicher Weiterbildung und Graduiertenzentrum

Sie sprechen Deutsch, möchten aber Ihre Englischkenntnisse verbessern? Sie wollten schon immer Spanisch, Französisch oder eine andere Sprache lernen und sich kulturell austauschen?
Dann sind Sie herzlich dazu eingeladen, Teil des Sprachtandems der CAU zu werden!
Hier vernetzen sich Doktorand*innen und Mitarbeitende aller Bereiche der Universität, lernen andere Sprachen und neue Menschen und Kulturen kennen. So lernt beispielsweise ein Doktorand aus Indien Deutsch, während sich der deutschsprachige Tandempartner auf seinen Indien-Aufenthalt vorbereitet.
Mit wem Sie in einem Tandem welche Sprache vertiefen möchten, bestimmen Sie – die Wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung unterstützt Sie gerne bei der Suche nach einer passenden Person. Das Sprachenlernen selbst erfolgt dann individuell, Sie entscheiden, wie oft, wo und wie lange Sie sich treffen.
Interessierte laden wir regelmäßig zu Tandem- Events ein, bei denen wir die Tandem Bildung unterstützen und die interkulturelle Atmosphäre genießen. Im Hinblick auf das populistische Gedankengut welches sich in Europa verbreitet und das damit verbundene Misstrauen anderer Kulturen gegenüber ist dieses Projekt und dessen Fokus auf kulturelle Akzeptanz von großer Bedeutung.
Bei Interesse senden Sie bitte eine Mail an hiwi-tandem@uv.uni-kiel.de, wir werden uns dann schnellstmöglich bei Ihnen melden. Damit wir eine/n passende/n Partner/in finden, bitten wir Sie um folgende Angaben:

  • Vorname, Name
  • Ihren Bereich an der CAU
  • Ihre Muttersprache und ggf. andere Sprachen, die Sie „anbieten“ können
  • Die Sprache(n), die Sie gerne lernen möchten (wenn Sie schon Kenntnisse haben gerne das ungefähre Niveau)


Optional können Sie auch gerne folgende Angaben machen, damit wir eine/n Partner/in finden, mit der oder dem Sie gemeinsame Gesprächsthemen finden:

  • Ihr gefühltes Alter
  • Womit Sie gerne Ihre Freizeit verbringen und was Sie interessiert
  • Ob Sie sich in Kiel auskennen und ob Sie bereit wären, Ihrem Tandem Orte und Plätze zu zeigen

Course description  

The Summer School combines practical workshops with intensive exchange in particular for postdoc teachers and researchers over the course of a week.

The participants will test and reflect the practice and effect of an extensive spectrum of methods and use that as well to prepare for their own teaching. In addition, they will learn about succesful leadership in teams at universities, research ethics, and strategical research funding. The Summer School allows to analyse and develop their own career management individually. Moreover, the participants will get to know different trainers and connect with other postdocs from various university departments.

The Summer School offers following topics in four blocks.

Teacher: University didactics; Leader: Leadership in teams and reflection on one's own leadership behaviour; Researcher: Research ethics and funding; Developer: career management

Horizon 2020 Proposal Writing Workshop - Verbundanträge in Horizon 2020

Course description  

The European Commission has recently launched the last Work Programme for Horizon 2020 for the period 2018-2020. With hundreds of calls and topics worth over more than €30 billion, it is the largest single integrated programme of publicly funded research and innovation across the EU. 
Competing successfully for Horizon 2020 funding, requires a thorough understanding of the policy context and complexities of the application process.
This training course will provide prospective applicants with a comprehensive insight into what it takes to successfully access Horizon 2020 funding.  

The course is aimed at researchers considering applying for the 2018-2020 Horizon 2020 calls and will include hands proposal writing exercises. It will focus exclusively on collaborative research proposals (not ERC and not Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions). It will not deal with issues regarding project management.

Please note that the workshop will be delivered in English.

 
Learning targets
  • Receive a comprehensive introduction to Horizon 2020 (policy context, structure, budget, support networks)
  • Acquire a thorough understanding of the rules of participation (funding instruments, eligibility, financial rules)
  • Gain a step-by-step understanding of the proposal writing process (identification of funding opportunities, consortium building, evaluation criteria)
  • Learn how to address cross-cutting issues (gender, ethics, outreach)
  • Practice writing Horizon 2020 proposals

Course description

 

This course gives you an active introduction in theory and practice in university teaching and learning. The basic knowledge of didactics, teaching methods and methods of communicating will be taught.

By using short lectures, demonstrating, collaborating and exchange of experiences you will learn and practice:

  •     the most important basics about learning and teaching
  •     a selection of the current teaching methods
  •     setting learning aims
  •     preparing and performing successful courses
  •     using your personality (body language, delivery etc.)
  •     methods of communicating
  •     to deal with difficult situations

At the end you will be able to apply the knowledge and the skills to improve your teaching and to be more relaxed during the courses.

We are all different - How to overcome cultural differences. An Introduction

Course description

 

To appreciate establishing contact and interact successfully in cross-cultural situations one needs awareness about specific characteristics of our own culture and cross-cultural differences. Crosscultural knowledge, cultural sensitivity, a high empathy level and frustration tolerance are the basic competences to handle such situations.

Content

  • Cultural Awareness (e.g. the German self-image and the image of the others)
  • Cross-cultural competence: A definition and a theory of cross-cultural learning
  • Cross-cultural differences and communalities on the basis of the frameworks of cultural dimensions and cultural standards

 

At the end of the seminar you will be able to overcome and manage cross-cultural situations appropriately and it will be easier for you to differentiate between a cross-cultural problem and other problems in cross-cultural situations.

This course is designed for graduate students and researchers of all academic disciplines in which the English language has only recently replaced German at conferences and in major journals. It offers some theoretical insight into the defining characteristics of Academic English and focuses on spoken language. There will be an opportunity to give a 10-minute presentation and get feedback from your peers.


Main aspects covered:

  1. Academic English - Linguistic Features
  2. Differences between Speech and Writing
  3. Small Talk
  4. Argumentation Skills
  5. Academic Presentations

 

The sessions require an advanced command of the English language.
